College Relations

Southwest Washington SHRM is devoted to partnering with local colleges and students as part of our mission to further professional development. Southwest Washington SHRM has partners with Clark College and Washington State University Vancouver (WSUV). We are always looking to develop new partnerships with schools and with students.

If you are in a college or university and would like to partner with us, please email info@swshrm.org.

Students

Are you a college student interested in a Human Resource career? Here's what you can do to learn more about the profession and prepare yourself for a career in HR:

  • Join the Student Southwest Washington SHRM chapter.

  • Attend a Southwest Washington SHRM event. Events are a great way to network with HR professionals and to learn more about relevant HR topics.

  • Complete an internship in the field of HR. Network with Southwest Washington SHRM members to identify internship opportunities or to find a mentor in the HR field.

  • Join SHRM as a student. SHRM membership will provide you with access to a wealth of HR resources.

  • Once a SHRM member apply for a SHRM Foundation scholarship to help supplement the cost of your education.

  • Once you have gained experience in the field, get certified as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR). Many employers desire PHR certification when hiring.

Employers

What can you do as a Human Resource Representative for College Students seeking a career in Human Resources?

  • Provide a hands-on paid or non-paid internship at your organization

  • Become a mentor to a college student working towards a career in Human Resources

  • Consider a college student for a community based project
